A little experimentation today with a used hairpin saddle.

Still have a woven hammock idea in the mix...plenty of time.

What's holding your pants up? Joking aside, that's one cool ride.
Yah, the belt is from my younger self before the balloon tire effect took over.
Thanks for the “props”.

I need to take the fork assembly out and grease the bearings, right now it’s sorta like those big box store bikes, on the dry side. Then I’ll do a test ride.

You may have the only bike, outside of a penny farthing, that one of those long spring saddles look good on!

Thanks Dr T! It’s OK but I’m not sure I like it.
I tore it down yesterday added locktite to the fork steering rod hardware, greased the bearings. It’s back together minus the truss rods which are waiting on paint.
I rode it around a few blocks this morning. The seating position seems good and everything felt solid.

I did a couple of short test rides this morning. I compared Ortho Faux Pedersen to the ride of my other more refined Virtue Ortho. Results seemed good, they both have a different unique feel. Truss rods are off awaiting paint.
Ortho Bikes...two different versions

After painting the truss rods with semi-gloss black the brackets received clear coat. To help cure them out they spent several days in the basement. I put them back on the bike today. It took a while to get everything adjusted and even. The test rides went pretty smooth. The hair pin saddle doesn’t want to tighten up so there’s a bit of built in front and back “sling” motion.
Took a few photos with the wrong sun position...a few details of progress. Nothing is a done deal yet.

Saddle/seat and wheels/gears in limbo. The paint may stay as is, maybe some touch up...lots of time. It’s at least a rider now...started as a frame.

More evolution...I was looking at old Pedersen photos an this idea came to mind. More weight but thinking this might work well.

After sketching out the rear stabilizer rods I found I had most of the parts to to rough them out. In a fast track mode I picked up a 5/16”x36” rod and a couple of eyebolts.
I turned the eyebolts into hook-bolts, shortened them and cut the rod, threaded the ends. The rest is now history.

Maybe a rack next???
Cushy seat, hairpin seat or woven hammock seat???

I found that I have an early simple tubular rear rack. It should look at home on the Ortho Faux Pedersen.
I also received a 1907 Dursley Pedersen catalogue reprint from direct England.

Added a rack...1907 models had a rack option.

Ed, just catching up here. Wow, you are really going to town on this one! Unique build, I'm not familiar with this bike, but it matches up well to the vintage pics of the original versions.

For what it's worth, my 5 cents. Awesome work on truss rods, love the hairpin saddle, I'd go all 'scuffed black' for pedals / rims and wrap the bar grip area in black cloth roadie tape. The blue bits just don't fit in my 'eye'.

Your attention to detail again, and creative use of 'hardware pieces not intended for this application' is your signature~! RaT oN!

Thanks...Not sure that’s going to happen this year. They need a tune up, missing badly.

Thanks OJ, I appreciate you critique. The blue is growing on me but it doesn’t look vintage for sure.
My game plan includes salvaging a vintage style frame into a rideable bike with a modern resto-mod look...with Dursley Pedersen influence. And it has to have Rat Rod touches.
I also have a yellow rim wheelset and a silver rim wheelset I’ve thought about using. Thoughts welcome.
