Bought a haro crank set off Mercari got excited they came in yesterday. Went out to my shop and got disappointed. The bearings are too big to fit. Guess I figured haro is haro but no.
Compared to the old one

so using my ingenuity I came up with a way to measure the old bearing using a speed square and a small framing square that has both standard and metric.

So now just going to order a new one and hope the cranks work on new spindle.

Got the correct bottom bracket finally and some forks from Oak Tree and robbed a headset from a Trek sitting around doing nothing. Decided to mock it up then I wanted to see how the handle bar would look.

Then I just had to put the bottom bracket and cranks on to make sure it all fit. That lead to seeing how everything thing else was going to look. I had the mags axles and bearings out so just stuck what ever through just to see. Really liking how it's starting to look. Not the seat and stem I am going to use just for mock up.

Confident everything is going to work I went ahead and broke it down and started getting everything ready for paint. Got mostly everything sanded down and in primer.

Guess I only took a pic of the bars after sanding them.

Making tracks! You're going to need a dazzling seat to compete with those bars and wheels!

Finally figured out what colors I was going with. While looking through the catalogs figuring out what year and model which turned out to be a 2007 frame but not used till 2008. I really liked the color combination of the 2007 burgundy and champagne with black components. Can't find the decals probably do to being a lower end model so going to come up with some graphics myself to use. These are the colors I'm going to use

The burgundy looks a little darker in this picture than it really is.

I've got some color on some of the parts. Handlebar is painted champagne and some black on the mags. Need to sand the mags and repaint got something on the paint when drying.
Should have my brakes that I ordered in today so I think I have everything needed for assembly when I get done painting.

Also need to sand the braking surface and edges to the bare aluminum when finished painting.

Sorry this was my starting point View attachment 212862
Original plan was to rob what ever I could use off this kent chaosView attachment 212863 but nothing works except for the wheels and seat post. I need to find a fork but not sure if this used a Threadless one or not. I'm thinking it uses a 1 1/8 steer tube. Hopefully the crank set will be here shortly.
nice project. you mags are off a 90's wall mart bike. most likely a Mongoose. as for the frame ya it uses a 1 1/8 threaded head set with press in cups and a 1 1/8 fork. . I may have a used fork that would work. if you can't find one local. hit me up if you need 1. I also have handlebars, stems , wheels and all other parts to build it. even low to high end 3PC three piece cranks. might even have the stock Haro stem around here. let me know what I can help you with on parts.;) FWI you need a rear wheel with 14mm axle or run the 3/8 to 14mm converter washers.

I think I have everything I need and I got some adapters for the axles but thanks. Doesn't bother me if the mags came from wall-goose still like them.

ya there cool looking mags. would take a lot of work. but if they were buffed out. IE polished up. wow or just clean them really good add clear color like see threw metallic blue or what ever shade. for that anodized look.

Not a lot of progress with this weather going on here in central Florida. So the only stuff getting done is what I can do in my shop. Yesterday after work started sanding the paint off the edges of the mag's got the side of one done then stopped for the day since I had today off because of the storm. This morning came out and finished up the sanding and pretty much at a stand still till my daughter gets the paint mask cut out and better weather.

Now I just need to give them a couple coats of clear and put the bearings and axles back in and they'll be finished.

Finally got my daughter to cut out my paint mask out last night so today was paint on the frame and fork.

Now it's time for some color

Let it dry for couple hours and remove the paint mask

Now I just need to let it bake in the shop a couple days and give it a couple coats of clear then I will be ready for assembly. I've also got the mag's repainted the other day and clear coated today so let them dry couple days and they'll be ready for reassembly. Got the pedals painted and noticed that one of the them was bent but looked through my pedals and found one that I could use the (spindle?) from.
