Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

love the tank plates, killer headlight-(is that what they mean about speed-of-light.)
This new VELOSTEEL claims to be as good as the old originals. Any thoughts
yeah i'am looking for the samething to ,a good new coaster brake. cant wait to see it done

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

While cheap MTB bar clamp/stem/gooseneck/whatevers are functionally better than cheap cruiser necks, that doesn't seem like it would look very good w/the rest of the setup, at least to me, and the one you've got does, and is plenty strong. I've been known to use ugly ones myself though, if it puts the bar where I want it.

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

The old clutch type coaster brakes, if properly cared for, are way better than the newer shoe type, but I know nothing about, and am curious as to the design of the Velosteel. :? If you buy one, maybe you can post a review/info for us. :|

Thats not a bad idea. But I'll get some more feedback before I buy. Maybe Karfer will chime in here and give some guidance (since his shop will be lacing my rims anyway). And as far as the neck goes... I will try the cheap one out just to see the difference, but I'll probably stay with the Schwinn neck thats on there now.

Regarding rear hub / coaster brakes. Where will I get the most bang for my buck? I've been looking around and see mainly these older types: Sturmey Archer, Bendix, and Departure.

Velosteel is the continuation of the Favorit hub, which was an imitation of the Sachs Torpedo.
I had a Velosteel, it was as bad as the Favorit, so I put in the original Sachs.
Best choice is probably the Shimano coaster brake.

Now I just have to paint my rims and have them laced.

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

I think this looks really cool -- really like the velocity stacks.

What I'm really curious about is that chainguard -- I can't make out what it says on it, what did it come from? I have one that's exactly the same, but didn't have the original paint on it:

It says "Ranger"..... But it was on a Schwinn Collegiate that I picked up. Not sure what it came on originally.

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

first off the name of the bike is great u win right there. second the velocity stacks are great i forgot you are a vw guy too. guess you liked my new bike then huh? hehe looks like your having a lot of fun with the bike and building really fast too. i will say i dont like the stem it looks out of place, and that tach sorry if that is an original sun then please dont chop it up there are lots of guys here that would fix it and put it in their hot rod. now if you turn it around facing you like a tack on a motorcycle that would be cool.

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe

Thanks for the comments Adam. I agree with u. The tach will stay off the bike. I have another idea for a headlight. Which neck are u talking about? I hope to have some rims to your shop soon to be laced.

Re: The Rot-Rad Coupe (Chainguard poll - pg 3)

I'm not satisfied with the current chain guard. Its very boring!! I've compiled pics of some I like currently listed on eBay. Remember, my bike will have a hot-rod theme (hopefully), with the frame and chain guard painted black. I need your help choosing a fitting chain guard. My favorite is #3, but I will let the forum decide. Hopefully I will get enough responses before the bidding time ends on these................... and GO!
