This is shaping up to be a good day.
Doing a few color tests for the chain guard.

I think I might do the same blend as I did on the frame. Blue to purple (back to front).

The pigment powders worked great for color match, but they're a bit clumpy unless you have an even way of application when dusting it. I believe it would be ideal in small application, or mixed in with an epoxy, even with clear in a spray gun. I sprayed a translucent green, then blew the powder off a card onto the surface. The orange beside it (right) is the Montana metallic orange. Much better option if I go that route.

Ok, so there's the right way to do this... and then whatever way I'm doing this 😆

I painted over the decal with a paint pen. I have more control, and it's faster than masking (I don't trust my precision with an exacto knife).

The idea is to paint the decal in acrylic, then spray the background while the lettering is still wet. The spraypaint drys really fast so, ideally, I should be able to scrape away the lettering which is still soft, and bubbled up underneath.

Like so...

I plan on repainting the lettering, then doing a final dust of flake before going to clear.

I repainted the lettering, but it didn't quite look right, so now I am doing an outline. Intstead of painting it, however, I am taking it back down to the chrome so it'll have kind of a mirror-finish outline. It's looking pretty good so far.

I got a little too excited while prep sanding, so I have to redo the fade. I tried to avoid the inevitable, but here we are...masking.

The new fade is complete! Going to give it a few, then remove the masking and clean up the outline on the font.

Now that the fade has been cleaned up, I am pulling the tape to show the lettering and green outline I did before (Had to do a little touch up on the outline).

I am going to dust the whole thing in blue flake to give the blue lettering a little more dimension and add a touch of blue to the green outline.

Like so...

Much smoother transition. Worth the effort

Thanks man 🙏
I removed some minor droplets from the first round, and pulled the blue a bit further forward so the fade better matches the transiton on the frame. Wait 'til you see it with clear.

I was on a roll last night, and the weather was perfect, so I went ahead and sprayed clear. I don't have a garage, so I threw some cardboard under the streetlamp across the street and made a bootleg spray booth 😆 (sorry, no pics).

I cannot express how happy I am with how this came out. I am SO glad that:
-I kept the green outline
-I decided to do a fill
-I switched the font color to blue

I'm gonna be that guy, and drag this out a little for a touch of suspense...
So just to refresh your memory on where this guard was initially, and the process it went through.
