Re: Villiers board tracker DONE?

56 is the wheel just spinning in the air with no resistance.. Hmm.. I'm gessing on 35 just to make it interresting..

You complain about rain, i woke up to snow this morning, not much though..

Re: Villiers board tracker DONE?

33 mph :|
But really fun!
Some MTBers where stoked as I passed by them.
Gotta review my sprockets.
I'm gonna do what Dowie said and throw in a 26 teeth sprocket.
Keep rollin'

PS - a vid tomorrow

Re: Villiers board tracker DONE?

A reaaly bad thing happened!
I messed up man...

One of the "nuts" (don't know the name in english) that holds the bearings on the shaft was wrongly screwed or it got wrongly screwed with the revin' up.

When I was goin' for a check up after this first serious run, I noticed that I couldnt turn the shaft by hand, only with the wheel (due to the sprockets ratio torque) or with engine runnin

the outcome was this:

"one or two thread jump"

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

a busted bearing

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

a damaged bearing "bed"

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I just hope that the threads on the shaft aren't wasted

On the sunny side, this means that I might add some mph on the top speed when I fix the problem :D if I was runnin it already busted

Keep rollin

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

As you saw on the previous post, things took a turn for the worst.

So, since I'm runnin out of patience and gettin' really frustrated, I’m gonna do like Jesse James on “Monster Garage” and I’m gonna SET THE WHOLE THING ON FIRE!

I’m kiddin..
Well, I’m gonna follow the old “keep it stupidly simple” rule and I’m gonna drive a chain directly from the clutch to the rear 44 teeth sprocket.
This means major changes:
Flip the rear Wheel
Mount the brake on the oposite side
Flip the clutch and have it working on the inside to get proper allignement with the Wheel
CUT the loop and build a new one, lower and wider so that the engine’s shaft is alligned with the wheel’s shaft

Keep rollin’

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

So its back to the shed again? To bad.. Maybe you should pull of those "13" stickers! :D

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

Probably right buddy..
The lenght on the left side of the shaft that holds the two sprockets is too much, causing it to stray from the allignement as the revs go up..
I can't use it like that. It would allways cause problems..

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

What if you extend the pipe holding the "bottom bracket" towards the clutch side? That would sort of cradle the axle in a more secure way..

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

Yep.. I see your point.
But the fact is that these parts (bearings, brackets, nuts) are to be used bmx wise, and are not meant to endure a engine use at much higher rpm..
I'm just affraid that other problems will arise in the future.
Do you see any problem with driving a chain directly from the clutch to the wheel? I think that it's simple and most likely problem free..
Thanks a lot K

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

Sorry about the set back. Maybe a sealed bearing bottom bracket self contained unit is in order? Maybe an aftermarket jackshaft kit for a shift kit? This would put the chain on the opposite side of the bike like you had it without needing to use the frames bottom bracket. Strait bolt on part from what I understand and it was designed to do this job from the get go. If there is one thing I have learned from mechanics in all these years is that if there are two or three ways to do the same job, always pick the easiest way. It will give you less grief in the long run.

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

I don't know cobra, I guess I'll keep it simple, its always less prone to problems...
Do you see any problem in driving the chain directly to the wheel?
I'll be able to redo the bottom loop, something that was a part of my plans...

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

With your direct drive solution cant see any problems other that it will be stuck in one gear and the only way to tweak the out put would be by switching the sprockets on the wheel...

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

If you do single speed to the rear wheel remember the 1 to 5 rule. Your rear sprocket should be close to 5x your front sprocket size.

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

I would upgrade your jack shaft set up. You can buy good bearings that are rated for higher rpm. Those bicycle crank bearings are not rated for that. Weld good jack shaft bearing plates where your crank bearing are. You can then use a .625" or .750" keyed shaft and sprockets are no problem. Check out my build.

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

Thanks for all the input guys.
I'm gonna try to drive a direct chain from the cent clutch to the wheel.
I've spent a bit of money on this and I'm allways aiming at using things that lay around. Also, I'm thinking of buying a V2 engine for a next build so I've gotta save...

As you know, I've got a 10 teeth sprocket on the clutch an a 44 teeth sprocket on the wheel. Ratio 4.4
What do you think?
Thanks a lot

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

Here is what you need, a CVT. Tranny and clutch in one unit. The perfect gear at every given RPM.

Re: Villiers board tracker WILL BE SET ON FIRE!

I appreciate it cobra, but the engaging rpm is too high for my engine. Maybe I'll consider it for my next build..
Thanks a lot
