Yeah, the curves show up much better in that last pic. Crazy design, guessing the tangent area will be welded. Will this be a 6 bolt stem clamp...leverage...?

I went a little crazy with the bars today, tacked up the centre and tried it on the bike, also slipped a 6" extension on one side to try that too:
Decided the extra 6" was too much so I welded them up as they were, but with a little butterfly twist!
You can see the front to back curve in this pic:
Sanded down all the welds and threw them on the bike!
They look a bit bent in this pic, but that is just because the bike is leaning slightly and the front is turned of centre, must have been something under the tire:
They measure out right on 3 foot tall now, I lost an inch in height from the mock up with the added curve. I must admit, I was thinking they were far too big, but looking at the pics now, I must be getting used to them, they look good!
The bike is no longer quite so stable standing by itself, those bars weigh a lot and if they swing to one side or the other it leans a fair bit, not enough to fall over, but with a gust of wind it might...
Wheeling it around sitting on it, it seems like it is much harder to ride now with these bars compared with standard apes, hopefully it is something I can get used to!

Just...wow.
I like how the bottom half of the bars mirror the sissy curves...the top half is unusual. Kind of a two leaf clover, almost too strange, I want to like them but I just don't know... maybe after paint and bar wrap.

Yep, I think you will be right there! Pretty sure the first few rides will be on dead flat terrain and pretty slow until I get used to the whole thing, I was just sitting on it yesterday and nearly went over backwards bike and all...
Might need to shorten the seat slightly to move the rider forward, I don't see how to fit a wheelie bar nicely without ruining the flow of the rear loop...Very cool.

Yeah, they are different! It started out as just mirroring the sissy as you said but I needed to bring the tops out for the butterfly handles so that turned them into X bars... Really comfortable to use actually, they come out right at my shoulder height...
The best look is from the side still, from the front they just look way too big to me...

Well... It rides!
The bars moved everywhere on the first few attempts, ended up wrenching the stem right down, but it holds nicely now.
I think the biggest issue I am having is the bars, the way they are designed you end up trying to steer with your wrists instead of your arms.
Think I will put some more standard apes on for a while and learn how to ride the bike better, then put these bars back on and learn them, very steep learning curve with everything all at once! All in all though, I am calling it a successful first ride all things considered!
Tried pushing it back inside with it all assembled now, and this is the first time with pedals fitted, only just fits through the doorways:
Had to order a brake cable to get the length I needed, it arrived today:

Hard to explain but usually you steer by using the strength in your biceps to pull one side towards you or push the bars away from you, with these 3" bars with the inward facing ends your wrists end up quite close together and you end up having to steer by twisting your wrists. Far less strength and control that way, and being such an unusual bike anyway, it was not exactly confidence inspiring!
Rode it around a bit with some other bars and it is a completely different story, I can go fast, turn U turns much quicker and hold a far straighter line, in fact the difference is so big, I doubt I will ever want to refit the big X bars to this bike. Great for show, but not for riding!
I am sure there will be another bike in the future they will suit better!
So looking at what other bars I have in my pile and thinking about maybe building others when I ran across some bars with a long stem attached, very similar to the ones in this drawing by John Brain:
A sort of mid-height bars with a long stem...
Threw them on a went for another ride, I think these might be the winning combination...
It is a completely different look, but I think the style works well... The angle on the stem seems to reflect the seat angles nicely even though they are a bit different in reality and they are really comfortable to ride with...
I think the chrome would be savable on the bars and stem too, so that might add a little interest to the front end...
I should have a ride video up soon with these bars, but until then...
